Transforming Kitchen Units

This customer wanted a way to give a modern look to their existing kitchen units without spending a fortune replacing them. David used modern low VOC oil based paints to provide exactly that for a fraction of the cost of new kitchen units.

  • The existing fitted kitchen units, while good quality, were starting to look a little dated. While David was decorating the customers living room the customer enquired if anything could be done with them to provide a more modern look.

  • The solution David suggested was a painted finish using a combination of a 4″ rad roller and paint brush to “lay off” avoiding any potential “orange peel” effect from the roller.
  • Firstly the units were all degreased and then sanded, to provide a “key” for the primer.

  • Once the primer had been allowed to dry, David again sanded the surfaces and then applied two coats of a low VOC (volotile organic compound) oil based paint with an eggshell finish. Low VOC paints are not only good for the environment they also give off very little smell and are extremely durable.
  • The handles to the kitchen units were removed prior to treatment, cleaned and replaced once the final coat of paint had dried.
